ave a halloween party and have everyone wear what they'd like BUT with something red on their head. We had a Halloween Bash a few years ago and we're going to have a Halloween Gala this year. Everyone brought spooky food like bat wings (chicken wings) and eyeballs (meatballs) to share for potluck. We had a "body parts" scavenger hunt and played the mummy wrap. Click here to read about our event.

arkness loomed and the moon was near full as a collection of spooky characters gathered for a Red Hat Halloween Bash.  Visitors Dorothy and Toto from Kansas dropped in for a visit followed close behind by the wicked witch.

A bandito arrived chasing a princess, an old hag, and an ex-madame.

There was plenty of food to satisfy the crowd.  Even a one-eyed, one-horned,HBflying.jpg (26047 bytes) flying lavender people eater dropped in to see what was cooking.

Along came an unsuspecting bathing beauty who was put under a spell.  She recited her vows and became Flashing Diva Judy.

The group broke into two teams and used their new purple eyeballs to wander the gardens in search of body parts.  Livers, hearts, skulls, and limbs were scattered throughout the yard.  Each team raced to bring back their parts to their skeleton for reanimation.  The "odd" team's skeleton was completed first before the "even" team found their liver!

Spooky stories were told and mummies were wrapped as the Queens laughed at the sights.

A fine haunting was had by all.

go on a hayride, walk thru a corn maze, make a scarecrow (be sure and bring some purple clothes and red hats for your scarecrow), drink some cider, come home and sit around a backyard bonfire or firepit roasting weenies & marshmallows while telling ghost stories.

In other words, revert to your childhood.

Another idea is to dress in costume and go trick or treating. I did that one year and instead of a treat bag, I took a wineglass. I had a GREAT night! (You just have to pick the right houses) Just do something fun!

Last year we did the "Mummy Wrap" - that was fun . . . using toilet paper, we wound up a couple of our "Witches" - since I have a wee bit more Ghouls in my group, we did this in 2 teams of 5 ghouls - first one to wrap up their "mummy" won a prize . . .

This year we will be into the Ghoulish Glamour Boo-to-You costumes at our Halloween event. Meaning, some "ghoul" that was mean an nasty from say, a Walt Disney movie - you know, like Cruel-ella Devil-le or MADum MADusa, the evil Stepmother in Cinderell or the witch from Snow White . . OR even Ma BARKer or Bonnie {Clyd's sidekick!!} - I am sure there are plenty more to pick from - I am going to be the Wicked Queen from Snow White - she was pure N-A-S-T-Y !!

I look for Halloween recipes to make - the funky kind!!! - maybe our recipe lady has some . . .Witches Brew is a good one! Let your imagination soar . . .

and . . have FUN!!

ANSWERS
1. According to ExtremeChocolate.com's annual Halloween candy survey, Candy Corn was the most popular Halloween candy in 2004. In previous years, Snickers had held the #1 spot.
2. According to superstition, if you stare into a mirror at midnight on Halloween, you will see your future spouse.
3. The first Jack-o-Lanterns were made in Ireland out of hollowed-out turnips. A piece of coal was inserted into the hollow and the "lantern" was meant to guide the way of poor old Jack who wasn't welcome in Heaven but was also barred from entering Hell for tricking the devil. According to legend, the devil gave this crude lamp to Jack so that he could walk the earth forever in limbo. When the Irish brought this tradition to America, they apparently decided that pumpkins were much easier to carve than turnips, and the modern-day Jack-o-Lantern was born!
4. Although there are many theories on the origin and history of Halloween, it is generally accepted that Halloween dates back to an ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain, or the Celtic New Year. It was believed that the spirits of everyone who had died during the year would return on the eve of Samhain to seek living bodies to possess for the following year. The Celts would dress in ghoulish costumes and hold noisy revels in an attempt to frighten away these spirits. Food and drink was also offered to pacify the dead. There are many tales of unfortunate souls being burned at the stake because they were perceived to have been possessed by one of the returning spirits. Around the turn of the first century AD, Romans abandoned this custom of human sacrifice in favor of the burning of effigies.
5. According to the National Retail Federation's Halloween Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, the most popular Halloween costume in 2004 was Spiderman with 2.15 million children dressing as their favorite superhero. Other popular costumes included princesses (1.8 million children), witches (1.3 million) and vampires (899,000).
6. The world's record for biggest pumpkin is currently held by a gigantic gourd weighing a whopping 1,385 pounds!
7. According to legend, a unibrow, tattoos, hairy palms, and a long middle finger are all signs of a werewolf.
8. The average American consumed 24 pounds of candy in 2002! It is believed that a large portion is consumed by kids on and during the days immediately following Halloween.
9. None of the "witches" put to death in the Salem Witch trials were burned at the stake. All those executed were hanged but one, Giles Cory, who was pressed to death. Several others died in prison, including Sarah Osborne, Roger Toothaker, Lyndia Dustin, and Ann Foster.
10. Samhainophobia refers to an abnormal and persistent fear of Halloween. This time of year may also stir up other phobias such as the fear of: cats (ailurophobia), witches (wiccaphobia), ghosts (phasmophobia), spiders (arachnophobia), the dark (nyctophobia), and cemetaries (coimetrophobia
